Canadian Selected Work Examples

BDLS enables innovation by de-risking. identifying, and engaging technical and funding resources through our domestic and international networks.


BDLS is an effective resource with respect to government relations, the planning and execution of strategies for promoting private and public sector awareness and obtaining government funding and financing to accelerate strategic resources and opportunities for its clients. BDLS is registered with the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying Canada (since 2002).

Canadian Selected Project Examples

NORTHERN LIGHTS COLLEGE P3 CAMPAIGN PLATFORM, PARTNERSHIPS, AND FUNDRAISING TIMELINE

Project Value $34M (approximately)


BDLS created an NLC fundraising platform focused on a campaign readiness assessment and identified three elements that are strategic to the NLC campaign short list for immediate results. The fundraising platform of NLC campaign included:


  1. A multi-channel approach to engagement (community and economic partners, Multi-level (SME) gift donors and public sector leverage of funds)

  2. Potential private (Corporate Relation) and Public Sector Contributors required a separate project element and program, and a personalized approach.

  3. A strong communication strategy, commitment, and the support of NLC Board and management.


There were four other undertakings that BDLS recommended as critical to support the sustainability of NLC fundraising platform:


  1. NLC Research, which focused on fundraising related activities.

  2. Donor Relations, with a commitment on Communicating/updating donors.

  3. Internet communications and social media which focused on providing an Information technology infrastructure.

  4. A commitment to recording, summarizing, reporting, and analyzing all funding and other financial information, facilitating internal and external audits that were provided to all stakeholders and partners.

PRIVATE SECTOR AND STAKE HOLDERS LNG TRAINING PROJECT

Project Value $11.3M

This project provided by Federal government and Private Sector leveraged training support for Indigenous communities along the pipeline right of way from the Northern Alberta/BC border to Kitimat. This consisted of various energy companies, Shell, Encana, Talisman and BC Hydo - Six were key project leads for program implementation.


TWIN SISTERS’ NATIVE NURSERY PROJECT

This was the first Indigenous natural habitat reclamation project in Northeastern BC. This was leveraged with funding from Walter Energy (Alabama Coal Company) and the federal government. This is an award-winning project with respect to its reclamation work for BC Hydro and energy companies operating in the region. Please note: After this project became economically sustainable, Walter Energy gifted the deed for the land upon which the project was constructed to the West Moberly First Nation.


NACCA CORPORATE BENEFIT AND LOYALTY PROGRAM

This contract involved BDLS contacting and interviewing 49 Aboriginal Financial Institutions (AFI’s) and 2 Indigenous banks to determine the private sector opportunities available and credit worthiness issues facing the clientele of each branch.


INDIGENOUS AFFORDABLE OFF-RESERVE HOUSING PROJECT – EDMONTON

Alberta Seniors and Housing - Approved for over $3M.

This ongoing project contemplates the design and construction of twenty-four net-zero housing units on either Federal lands or a corporately owned parcel in Edmonton. BDLS has collaborated with an independent builder, the Provincial and federal governments (CMHC) to cooperatively fund and implement this innovative affordable housing for First Nation members.


KORITE

KORITE is the direct source of the finest ammolite available. Since 1979, KORITE has been the largest, most trusted source of the colorful gemstone and it controls more than 90 per cent of the world’s known ammolite resources. The KORITE mine is the only fully operational, legal commercial ammolite mine in the entire world. The company, its discovery team, craftspeople, designers and sales professionals stand by quality and professional confidence at every stage of its international operations. In addition to mining ammolite, KORITE’s design and production division sells fine jewelry around the world in more than 28 countries.


BDLS facilitated relationships with KORITE, the Government of Canada, the Alberta Government and contacts in Hong Kong and Shanghai to support and assist KORITE International’s goal of becoming Canada’s largest Jewelry company.


KORITE was the official jewellery licensee for the Canada 150 celebrations. BDLS assisted KORITE in securing this prestigious position with the Canadian government, departments and agencies.
